Hedge Cutting

Hedge Cutting

Helping with Hedge Maintenance

It’s important to trim hedges regularly to stimulate growth and maintain shape. Hedge cutting can be more difficult than it looks, which is why many people opt for professional hedge trimming and reduction services. If the hedge is cut back too heavily or left neglected it will result in an unattractive hedge line and will look bare. If this does happen it can take a long time to recover and is obviously not wanted in areas with high upkeep standards. Hedges should ideally be trimmed every 6 months. Hedges are created by growing a series of plants closely together and are often used as a living fence or boundary. We can help tidy and maintain your existing hedge or provide advice on how to establish a new one.

Often we have to trim a mature hedge back to the previous cuts, which helps to maintain a healthy hedge with an even, dense appearance. If you have a hedge that has become overgrown it may need a reduction, we can reduce and reinstate the hedge to a more manageable size.

Newly instated hedges require different pruning for the first couple of years after planting. Formative pruning is usually carried out in winter or early spring. We can even provide a regular trimming schedule for your hedge or we welcome one-off jobs.

Where necessary, we will do a full hedge assessment before carrying out any work, we can discuss with you what you require and what is needed for your hedge. If hedges are not maintained or trimmed frequently, it can become increasingly difficult to keep the hedge dense, even and attractive. Also, over many years gaps can form at the base. As with all tree surgery and garden services the timing of works should take into account the potential for nesting birds and other wildlife and be delayed until after the nesting season - which usually runs from March to August - if any signs indicate activity our team will advise you.
